2023 Mazda CX-9: early look...
The Mazda CX-9 is one of many redesigned Mazda models coming out soon. Just like the new CX-50 (CX-5 replacement) and the new Mazda 6 sedan, the new CX-9 (which could become the CX-90 or CX-80) will be based on the all-new RWD platform. And will get the new inline 6 cylinder engine as well.
The new 6 will be available worldwide as a 3.0 Liter, or 3.3 Liter Diesel. Obviously, the Diesel will not be coming to the US. And by late next year, I am not sure it'll be welcome anywhere...
Base versions could still use the current 2.5 Liter Turbo, with the new 6 being an option. Apparently, a plug-in hybrid could also be in the works.
Starting late next year, we will be seeing these new Mazdas coming out. The new CX-50 could be the first one. With the Mazda 6 and CX-9 replacement next. Mazda will move all their new models upmarket. So this new 3 row SUV could actually be competing with the new Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60. As well as the less expensive Kia Telluride, Chevy Traverse or Explorer crowd.
